In a recent report by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), dog owners spend an average of $1000 on pets during the first year.

Like humans, dogs are also prone to depression, pain, stress, and anxiety. This can negatively impact their happiness and general well-being. Reduced physical activity for man’s best friend can lead to loss of health and contribute to medical conditions that can even impact their lifespan.

The good news? Again, like humans, when dogs are provided a proper amount of mental and physical stimulation, their overall wellness and happiness quotient will improve. When it comes to dogs, they start each day with a specific amount of energy, physical and mental, that needs to be expended for them to feel balanced and satisfied.

However, humans are almost always busy. With our packed schedule, how are we expected to make time to help our pets release this mental and physical energy?

CBD for dogs is among the fastest-growing trends in the dietary supplement space. But is it for real, or is it just a short-lived obsession? Can it actually save money otherwise spent on veterinarians and medication? Is it true that, like humans, dogs too can reap the benefit of including a dose of CBD in their diet?

One of the most heartbreaking things for a dog-owner to go through is to see their pet suffering from debilitating medical problems like arthritis or anxiety. Most animal lovers will deprioritize everything else to ensure their furry companion’s mental and physical health is well looked after.

CBD Dog Treats for Pain Relief

Hemp extract dog treats are specially formulated keeping dogs in mind and help improve their quality of life. Dogs find these treats tasty and easy to digest. The CBD in these treats is absorbed quickly into the body.

High-quality dog treats and chewables may be able to minimize inflammation, arthritis pain, and anxiety. Most superior CBD dog treats are made with the same formula used in the CBD products for humans.

As is the case with humans, finding the appropriate dose of CBD for dogs can be tricky as CBD treats for dogs also come in various forms. The general rule most pet owners follow is 0.5mg of CBD per kilogram of body weight.

The Challenge with CBD Dog Treats

Even though the benefits of CBD for pets are becoming more well known to owners, veterinarians are limited in how they are able to approach CBD treatment. According to a statement by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), “under current federal and state law; veterinarians may not administer, dispense, prescribe, or recommend cannabis or its products for animals.”

California is the only state in the USA where legislation has authorized veterinarians to explore the use of cannabis-based supplements for therapeutic use. This has left veterinarians and dog owners in a tough situation with regard to the use of CBD-based health supplements for dogs.

The next question is whether CBD can be considered as a noteworthy cure for our canine friends. The pet industry is primed to be the source for substantial growth of CBD use.

Almost 2000 veterinarians were surveyed by the Veterinary Information Network on the frequency of pet owners inquiring about using CBD for dogs. Almost 30% of the veterinarians surveyed received such inquiries every week.

If you’re one among the many dog owners who have begun including CBD in your pet’s diet, do not expect to see drastic changes. Observe the changes in your dog’s wellness over a few weeks and you will start to notice a shift.
